The spirited young elf Rider and his skittish ostrich steed Fright (Or Fright Rider and Ozzy, depending on who you ask) had dominated the competitive jousting scene for years—so many years, in fact, that a jealous competitor banished Rider to the Underworld and turned him undead. Despite his fears, however, Fright turned himself into a skeleton and braved the journey to the Underworld to rescue his owner, and the two have dutifully protected Skylands since.
