Benjamin was born and raised in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He began wrestling his sophomore year at Orang-Wilkinson High School. He served an assistant wrestling coach at his alma mater and trained with future Ohio Valley Wrestling ( OVW) tag team partner Brock Lesnar
