Fourteen-year-old Lain Iwakura gets an unsettling email from a classmate who recently died by suicide. Despite her lack of tech skills, she enters the Wired, a virtual network like the internet. Encountering mysterious challenges, she's pursued by Men in Black who know more about her than she does. Reality and cyberspace merge as Lain faces surreal events exploring identity and perception.
