Serengeti is a 2000 American animated adventure comedy film produced by Paramount Pictures. The film was directed by Don Bluth (in his feature directorial debut) and co-directed by Gary Goldman from a screenplay by Bradley Raymond, George A. Mendoza, and Tom Rogers, based on a story by Mendoza. It features the voices of Kevin James, Tom Kenny, Kevin Bacon, Samuel E. Wright, and Jack Black. Set during the days of the dry season in Africa the film centers around three main characters—Melvin (James), a no-nonsense African elephant; Seth (Kenny), a loudmouthed meerkat; and Donato (Bacon), a sardonic lion—who come across a human baby and work together to return it to its tribe. Additionally, the film occasionally follows Scot, a speechless "striped grass mouse" (Wedge), who is perpetually searching for a place in the ground to bury his seed.
