A scarecrow named Scout lives in the Town of Hameshton but she fails at being a scarecrow due to the fact that she can't scare anyone or anything. It gets worse when a fearsome swarm of locust are coming to devour her town. She has to be scary enough to drive the swarm away. She enters the city of Miseryville, a secret monster world underneath the world. She befriends two monsters named Spite and Rot. They help her find her monsterous side while also planning something sinister on the side.
