Takeo Yakata was one of many humans recruited by the Guardians of the Universe, the creators of the Green Lantern Corps, who planned to create their successors, a race of new Guardians on Earth via the Millennium Project. The transformation turned Takeo into RAM, a master of technopathy. Captured by Roulette and taken to "The House", RAM would end up dying, but even if his physical form passed, his digital form remained, which was found by Doctor Mist, who helped him regain a physical form, and having him rejoin his old friend Jet in the Global Guardians.
