A year after her father's death, 28-year-old Louise XIV of France begins her development of transitioning her mother's hunting lodge Versailles into a grand palace to create a symbol of absolute monarchy in which she envisioned, and requests for the nobility to reside with her there. However, there are nobles and peasants who do not want her influence beyond Paris and seek to stop the construction at all cost, by means of highway robberies and murders. There is also a feudal war between the Spanish and the Dutch. With construction costs, conspiracies, and wars, the palace Louise dreamt of building will be paid in blood.
