The much needed comedic relief - An assistant in the torture chambers. Gilg is mentally slow, and while unintentionally funny, he also has a sadistic streak beneath his simpleton’s surface. He often tries to get Marcus to allow him to extract confessions, and takes deep pleasure in causing pain. Marcus detests him. When the plague hits their village, Gilg runs away to a neighboring town, where he presumably dies of the plague anyway, as all the surrounding towns are infected as well. Age 40-45
