John, already 80 years old, is feeling worse and worse every day. He is already so weak that he can hardly get out of bed. He knows his time is coming. Ruth, his beloved wife, who is 62 and still has a long life ahead of her, also knows this. His adopted daughter Ruth, his nephew Noah, Alice-wife of his older brother Jeff, who died two years ago-and his best friends Sally and Sebastian know it.
