A young grifter (Louis) witnesses a near fatal car crash, and notices cameramen filming the wreckage. Louis is inspired by what he has seen, and he decides to try his hand at freelance crime videography, or "Nightcrawling". As Louis begins to sell more of his videos to news stations, he films crimes that are more gruesome, an begins to cross unethical boundaries, and risk the lives of the people around him in order to get the best videos.
