After his defeat to Earthrealm, Shao Kahn was forced to fulfill his promise to Raiden to leave the human world alone and there would never be another Mortal Kombat. However, Shao Kahn had not yet given up on his plan of conquest and enraged at losing his opportunity to dominate the land, the Emperor of Outworld gathered his army and declared war on the earth plane with the aim of taking it by force. But to stop him, Raiden gathered Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, Sonya, Kung Lao, Sub-Zero, Smoke and Jax to defend the world from humans once again.
