The Medici family, once the unchallenged rulers and patrons of the Renaissance, now face exile, betrayal, and the rise of new powers. The season follows the turbulent leadership of Piero de’ Medici, the spiritual and political upheaval under Savonarola, and the eventual resurgence of Medici influence through the next generation—culminating in the family’s return to Florence and their ascent to the papacy.
