Young Anna Marie developed a uncontrollable mutant power no one wished they would have, to absorb the memories, skills, and if superhuman, the powers of other via skin-to-skin contact. Discovering this after kissing her boyfriend Cody who ended up in a coma, Anna Marie left home and wound up becoming Mystique's adopted daughter and a member of the Brotherhood, taking the name Rogue. After an incident with Captain Marvel that ended with her permanently absorbing Captain Marvel's strength and flight ability and leaving Captain Marvel in a temporary coma, Rogue left the Brotherhood and joined the X-Men seeking redemption for her deed.
