Nea is a former Anomaly whose parents forged a new identity for her, enabling her to reenter the Society and become a medical Official. While blending in with the crowd and discreetly performing her duties, she meets Xander Carrow and they become close friends. When a horrific plague breaks out in the Society, throwing everything into imbalance and allowing the Rising to step in as conquerors, she eagerly joins and works desperately with Xander to develop a cure.
