Following the events of Uncanny X-Men, the secret history of experiments on mutants is exposed. The unthinkable happened when a group of mercenaries named the Marauders who had been hired by Sinister and lead by Gambit, to break into the tunnels and exterminate the Morlocks, because Sinister recognized that they were mutated using his work.
