mr. bernard is the man the siblings are accused of murdering after casino patrons saw vicky getting up-close and personal with him on the night of his murder. this was an attempt to get close enough to scam the rich businessman out of some money — not to murder him. wilmer was married to lori, their relationship was more of a business transaction than a romantic one.
