Genius billionaire industrialist Tony Stark lives a life of excess as the head of Stark Industries, supported by his loyal assistant Pepper Potts and his closest friend, Air Force officer James “Rhodey” Rhodes. While demonstrating new weapons technology overseas, Tony is ambushed and captured by enemies using Stark-built arms, forcing him to confront the consequences of his company’s work. Gravely injured, Tony builds a crude armored suit to survive and escape, returning home a changed man. Secretly refining the armor, Tony becomes Iron Man and begins shutting down Stark Industries’ weapons division, drawing the attention of Obadiah Stane, his father’s longtime partner who believes Tony is unfit to lead. Stealing Tony’s technology, Stane constructs a massive suit of his own, becoming Iron Monger and attempting to seize control of the company. With Pepper and Rhodey uncovering the truth, Tony confronts Stane in a final battle that defines his new purpose. By the end, Iron Man emerges as a hero who understands that true power lies in responsibility.
