The story begins with the murder of Sue Dibney, the wife of the Elongated Man, and the subsequent investigation by the Justice League, which leads to the discovery that a villain, Dr. Light, had previously assaulted Sue and that the heroes had used mind-altering powers to erase the memory of the event from their own minds.
