A boy (Stanley) is falsely accused of stealing a pair of sneakers from a charity auction is sent to an enigmatic work camp in the middle of nowhere. At the camp, the boys are expected to dig a five foot hole each day in the hot sun. After a while, Stanley begins to learn that the camp seems to have an ulterior motive, and that the camps secrets might have ties to his family history.
