While flying on an airplane, professional footballer Joe Pendleton dies in a crash because a newly hired heavenly messenger impulsively snatched Joe's spirit from the latter’s body prematurely. Before the matter can be rectified, Joe's body is cremated; so the celestial Mr. Jordan grants him the use of the body of a wealthy man by the name of Bruce Farnsworth, who has just been drowned in a bathtub by his gold-digging wife, Julia, and his secretary, Tony Abbott.
