Emerson is a 12-year-old boy who can float, just not well, and is classified as a RISK (Reoccurring Incidents of the Strange Kind) kid. He's also afraid of heights, which complicates his RISK factor even more. In the summer he gets sent away to Camp Outlier, a government-mandated camp. He gets sorted into the Red Maple Cabin with Murphy: a time traveler, Hank: can be invisible, Anthony: lights on fire randomly, Zeke: on and off X-ray vision, Gary: gets stuck to things, and Eli, their counselor, who can change his appearance. Emerson soon finds out that Murphy might die this summer in one of his time traveling mishaps.
