In a neon-soaked, stratified city, The Feed rules every aspect of life in 2032. Citizens are ranked by Influence Scores, determining access to jobs, healthcare, and food. High Influencers live in opulent towers, while Lowliers scrape by in decaying slums. Lila, a 20-something Lowlier, hacks scores to survive, haunted by her past as a disgraced influencer who criticized The Feed and lost everything. She scavenges abandoned tech in the slums, dodging AI surveillance drones. At a black-market tech bazaar, she finds a data shard revealing that The Feed’s algorithm, EmpathyCore, manipulates users into cycles of outrage and despair to boost engagement. Worse, those whose scores hit zero vanish—erased from existence. The film critiques social media’s exploitation of division—race, class, politics—to maintain control, mirroring real-world polarization. The Influence Score system exposes systemic inequality, where marginalized groups are erased while the privileged are complicit. Doppelgängers reflect mental health crises fueled by online pressure, and Lila’s sacrifice underscores the power of authentic resistance against dehumanizing systems.
