It's later revealed that he was kidnapped by the Institute for his near pristine Pre-War DNA (which was utilized to derive the template used in all modern Generation 3 Synths) and ultimately became the head of the Institute. He meets up with the Sole Survivor as a man in his sixties, and is now named "Father," with him hoping to convince the Sole Survivor to join him and help rule the Commonwealth.
