Marianne Daventry is sent to Edenbrooke by her grandmother in hope of finding a husband. On the way, they get attacked and her coachmen James gets shot. They are forced to stop at an inn. While at the inn, she meets a handsome man named Philip. Sir Phillip had run away from Edenbrooke because he thought Marianne would try to ensnare him just for the title and the money. After a night with Marianne he turns back to Edenbrooke, exited to spend a month with her.
