Niki Phoenix, a kicked-out young woman desperate for rent money, is lured into the industry as a lifeline that quickly morphs into a gilded trap: she tastes cash and attention while Roxie and recruiter Roco groom, drug, and commodify her and the other girls, her best friend Amulet rising as the company’s golden face only to be chemically ruined and left paralyzed, while her mother exploits her fame and her father shuts the door; when Niki finally tries to leave she discovers the exit is barred by contracts, threats, and a culture that profits off loneliness, and the film ends not with neat salvation but with a brutal, clear-eyed reckoning about how desperation gets monetized and what it costs the people inside it.
