Two years after the war, peace has not been kind to all. Caramon Majere is a drunken wreck, haunted by the loss of his brother. Raistlin, now the most powerful Archmage on Krynn, has secluded himself in the Tower of High Sorcery. He is visited by Crysania, a beautiful and fanatically devout cleric who believes she can save his soul from darkness. Raistlin agrees to let her help, but on his own terms: by traveling back in time to the days before the Cataclysm. His true goal is not redemption, but blasphemy—to enter the Abyss and defeat the Queen of Darkness, taking her place as a god. Caramon and the kender Tasslehoff are pulled along on a tragic journey into the glittering, doomed city of Istar, a society on the brink of divine annihilation.
