Unlike the other androids, 16 is completely synthetic, and has a robotic personality. 16 was created to kill Goku, but 16 is calm and friendly. 17 and 18 take him under their wing. During this time, 16 is exposed to nature, where he takes an instant liking to it. When Cell appears, 16 agrees to join in the fight against him. 16 is eventually destroyed by Cell, but this gives Gohan the push he needed to turn Super Saiyan 2.
