Amanda is a young runaway, who has never had an easy life; abandoned at age two by her alcoholic mother, she was in and out of foster care, before finally settling in with a loving family, which ended with her running away from home, and ending up pregnant from her abusive boyfriend. Homeless and destitute, she ends up in a motel in Ottawa, where she befriends others in her situation.
