Julian Ross (Adam Driver) is a failed painter living in debt and unsold paintings, until substance abuse catapults him into a lucid dream where he awakens young. Determined not to fail, he retraces his life, correcting every past mistake, but his obsession nevertheless leads him to make a colossal mess that ruins everything again. Upon awakening from his trip, he realizes that the perfection of the dream was an illusion and that his current misery is not a final sentence. With the cynical spirit of someone with nothing left to lose, he decides to take action in the real world to change course before it's too late. The film explores with dark humor human failure and the absurd claim to control destiny.
