In Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel to the original series, the life of a young Dexter Morgan (age 20) is explored before he became the killer in the series we know. The series is set in 1991, fifteen years before the events of the original series, and focuses on how Dexter, with the help of his adoptive father Harry, learns to control his murderous impulses and develops his "Code". Dexter begins working as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metropolitan Police Department and, through the series, begins his career as a serial killer, facing his inner conflicts and Harry's influence.
