Shayera Gibney discovered that the price she had to pay for her new abilities was a ferocious appearance when her metamutant abilities first emerged. She walked the streets after her parents ejected her from their house. Shayera was attacked by a group of metamutant haters, but was saved by Angelhawk, who won her over with his kind personality and good looks. Shayera wanted to be attractive, so she endured risky experimental treatments that further changed her appearance to resemble her idol. Shayera, who went by the name Wildhawk, tried to hide her true identity while using her powers to fight crime.
