The shock Duela Walker felt when her metamutant powers first appeared caused her psyche to split. Duela's psychic powers were inaccessible, but her new persona, Typhoid Harlequin, a hybrid of Typhoid Mary and Harlequin, had total control over them. At first, Typhoid Harlequin mistook her for the Hyena's child. Hyena took advantage of her state of mind and convinced her that the Dark Claw's brainwashing was the cause of the Duela half of her psyche. As Hyena's sidekick, Typhoid Harlequin used her skills for his own ends.
