Born with strange telepathic abilities, Jillian Arkadin worked as a psychic investigator. She was attacked by the thief while working a case involving the theft of magical objects. He let loose a demon, which killed her. Jillian was able to connect with a strong magical statue as she was dying, which caused her soul to be transferred in a body formed of living shadows. Jillian was reborn as the Shadowbird, a superhero who battled supernatural crime by combining her psychic prowess with her new shadow powers.
