It was revealed that Barbara Hardy, a former felon and a hybrid of Black Cat and Batgirl, was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. She used her own physical strength to battle crime, giving the Black Bat hero status. Bruce Wayne invited Barbara to join after noticing how fast she gained his respect. Black Bat and Bruce Wayne got together romantically quite quickly. When they were dispatched on a mission to destroy a doomsday device, Bruce and Barbara were already engaged to be married. She and Bruce were able to dismantle the device, but Bruce appeared to have died in an explosion. Black Bat may have been able to save the man she loved, but it is unknown whether Bruce was able to escape or both.
