Ted Kord has appeared in a few projects before, but today, he makes his debut as Blue Beetle in his forty-five-minute special. Ted Kord is an heir, a skilled chemist and inventor. He has spent years of his life researching the mysterious artifact, the blue scarab, which belonged to his mentor, Dan Garrett, the former Blue Beetle of the 20th and early 2000s. When his lab is robbed in search of the scarab, Ted uses his inventions and is inspired by Dan and this new era of heroes to become Blue Beetle and stop the thief, who turns out to be his uncle, Jarvis Kord.
