A long time ago, shortly after the start of the Age of Fire, Gwyn assembled an elite force of knights to fight the forces of darkness: Hawkeye Gough, the giant archer, Lord's Blade Ciaran, the gentle assassin, Ornstein, the dragonslayer, and Artorias, the steel-willed knight. When the Abyss starts to spread and grow across the town of Oolacile, Artorias and his partner and friend Sif the wolf travel there in order to destroy darkness forever. After a long Battle against Manus, the Father of the Abyss, he sacrifices himself so Sif can escape. But when the Chosen Undead arrives there after a long time, Artorias isn't dead: he has been corrupted by Manus and is ready to protect him at all costs.
