It has now been 2 years since Adonis Creed defeated Viktor Drago and became the heavyweight champion of the world. He is now a known celebrity across the nation, even more so as he is the son of the deceased boxing champion, Apollo Creed. Meanwhile, James "Clubber" Lang has lost his reputation in the sports industry after his loss to Rocky Balboa in 1982. He is now a wanted criminal in Philadelphia. After his prison sentence is up, he begins training his son, James Lang Jr. in boxing. James, who goes by the name "Junior" in the ring, must challenge Adonis Creed to a match to see who will become the next heavyweight champion of the world.
