Professor Peter Plum is an annoying, bossy but intelligent man who was a former Egyptian explorer, now teaches archeology at an independent university. He and Mr. Boddy go way back, and there was a news article years ago that rumored of Mr. Boddy paying Plum some money, perhaps to keep quiet about something. Professor Plum knows a lot, but what he chooses to tell is what's suspicious.
