The Captain of the Royal Guard, Esker is what one would consider the prime example of nepotism, since it was likely he was given his position to serve solely as a useful idiot. While he dutifully (and even fearfully) enforces the traditions of the kingdom, he is not wholly unsympathetic to the plight of his fellow subjects.
