In 2006, best friends Patrick Zweig (Josh O'Connor) and Art Donaldson (Mike Faist) win the boys' junior doubles title at the US Open. They watch Tashi Duncan (Zendaya), a rising star, win the girls' junior singles final, and both Patrick and Art become infatuated with her. Tashi was already a celebrity by then and had her own fan following and an endorsement with Adidas. Tashi's father (Naheem Garcia) saw his daughter as a brand in herself with her own fashion line, a nutritional supplement and even her own foundation.
