Gerald Robotnik's grandaughter. Maria was an optimistic and positive girl, despite suffering from NIDS (Neruo-Immune Deficiency Syndrome). Shadow was created in hopes of finding a cure from Maria. The two became very close friends. Then, the Ark was raided by the military when they deemed Gerald's research too dangerous. Maria was shot on the ARK, but before death, she asked Shadow to make the people of the Earth happy before she launched him towards the planet. Maria's death altered Shadow's psyche, and while Shadow has gotten over his past, he still thinks about her from time to time.
