Peter Fonda was cast as Mephisto for a cameo in blade 1998 and was set to play the Villain of the franchise but due to creative differences and scheduling conflicts, he had to step down from the role. Marvel then cast Johnny Depp to take over and his portrayal of Mephisto received high praise. Depp said in a interview that he loved Fonda's brief scene and thought he could have been a great Mephisto.
