As winter break begins, a group of Engines, including Thomas and James begin to receive anonymous, lascivious phone calls. Initially, Percy eggs the caller on, but stops when he responds threateningly. Soon, James’ friend Diesel goes missing from the sheds, and a local Engine is murdered, leading the Engines to suspect a serial killer is on the loose. But no one realises just how near the culprit is.
