Dr. Elio Sartori, a reclusive astrophysicist grieving the loss of his partner, lives in an idyllic but desolate seaside village in southern Italy. One night, a glowing crimson object streaks across the sky and crashes into the ocean near the cliffs. Curious and desperate for purpose, Elio ventures to the crash site and discovers an alien creature—a shimmering, shape-shifting being he names Astra. Astra is wounded and weak but communicates telepathically with Elio through fragmented, haunting images. She reveals she’s been exiled from her home planet and needs shelter to survive. Against his better judgment, Elio hides her in his home, slowly nursing her back to health. As Astra begins to heal, her abilities manifest—she can mimic human forms, manipulate memories, and influence emotions. Elio becomes fascinated with her, seeing Astra as a reflection of his loneliness and unspoken desires. Astra, in turn, begins to take on characteristics of Elio’s late partner, twisting their relationship into something both deeply intimate and unnervingly alien. The villagers grow suspicious of Elio’s strange behavior, particularly his estranged childhood friend Claudia who returns to the village after a failed marriage. Claudia tries to reconnect with Elio, but Astra’s presence begins to distort her reality as well, creating rifts between the villagers and exposing long-buried tensions.
