Bruce Wayne wakes up in Arkham Asylum in a future 20 years away. He is young. There is nothing wrong with him, physically or mentally. The problem is that everything points to the fact that... He was never Batman. To uncover the mystery of his past, Batman embarks on a journey through an unknown world - and encounters futuristic versions of his former enemies and friends along the way. Along the way, he encounters futuristic versions of his former enemies and friends and brings along a ghostly companion, the head of the Joker, encased in a jar. By some miracle, the villain's still-living head becomes Batman's guide to a devastated world.
