Scott is still scarred by Jean's death in X2 at Alkali Lake. When the Mind Stone claims his mind, Scott is in a dream that Jean, calling herself the Phoenix, has come back, but as a threat to both mutants AND humanity. Cyclops sees Charles, Beast, Nightcrawler, Iceman, Rogue, Storm, Pyro, Mystique, Juggernaut, and even Magneto getting mauled, destroyed, incinerated, decimated, obliterated, destroyed by the Phoenix in many different grueling ways the screen won't show, and Jean's voice echoing around and inside Scott's head, saying that he could have done something to save her, or stop her from what happened at Alkali Lake. Out of all the dreams the Mind Stone gives to the X-Men, Cyclops' is the most traumatizing.
