Synopsis

Area 88 takes place between the late 1970s to early 1980s and is largely set in a war-embroiled Middle Eastern country called the Kingdom of Asran (alternatively transcribed as "Aslan" or "Arslan"). The war uses mercenary fighter pilots, with its headquarters at a secret desert air force base called Area 88. Up-and-coming airline pilot Shin Kazama gets tricked into signing up by his friend Satoru Kanzaki. Facing execution for deserting from Area 88, Shin reluctantly becomes a fighter pilot and attempts to serve his three-year contract.

Description of Michael Simon (Mickey):

Mickey is a former US Navy Pilot who flew F-4 Phantoms during the Vietnam War before transitioning to the F-14 Tomcat. A native of Brooklyn, New York, he graduated with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the US Naval Academy, helped founded the coveted TOPGUN Fighter Weapons School, and was a shareholder in his father's oil consulting-accounting business (Simon & Sons). After serving 10 years in the Navy, he was slated to take over. But, seeing that he missed the essence of war and the camaraderie it brings, he stole a Tomcat from NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, and headed to Area 88. Mickey hasn't since looked back, not even once to glance at his abandoned fiancee Tracy.
