The Wendigo are the result of an ancient curse laid down by the Elder Gods (or forged by Tanaraq) that transform any person who eats the flesh of another human being in the Canadian wilderness into a massive, fur-covered humanoid beast with fangs and razor sharp claws. There is usually (or at least it is thought that) there is ever only one or two Wendigo at the time, as a Wendigo is stated to be doomed to roam the woods until the curse is taken up by another,[6] though there have been more of them under certain circumstances.
