With the rise of a new species of super-powered humans, paranoia and hysteria grows around these mutants, with the government issuing the creation of the Sentinel Program, Project Wideawake, and the Mutant Response Agency to capture and imprison innocent mutants. This prompts Professor Charles Xavier to deploy the X-Men to fight the Sentinels and rescue innocent mutants from harm.
