Samantha Montgomery (Hilary Duff) is a tomboy, unpopular at school and struggling at home with a cruel stepmother and two spoiled stepsisters. She's been exchanging texts with someone called Nomad for a few months and he's asked her to meet him at the Halloween dance, on the dancefloor, at 11 p.m. Samantha has a problem, she must be back at her stepmother Fiona's (Jennifer Coolidge's) diner by midnight, which doesn't give her much time at all. Before Nomad can find out who she is, or she him, she has to leave the party with the help of her best friend Carter (Dan Byrd). After the party everything takes a strange turn as she continues to navigate the halls of her high school and the nightmare that is her home life.
